When I stopped to think about what I love most on the Internet today, I really couldn't decide. It's a place to read jokes, learn new things and even share your life as well. However, when I came home today I finally realized that at other people's blogs have to fit into my top three. Today I'll introduce Zuburbia to you. It was one of the first blogs I ever started following and I have read every single post since. I love how it's almost perfect for me. Rich vocabulary as well as good photos and even environmental talk! And you can't forget the loads of vintage. These pics are from Ebay auctions and I often save these to get inspiration for future sewing projects. I know I should only be thinking about my ball gown, but we all have our flaws, right?
That flaws part reminded me of an extremely beautiful song :) Caitlin Crosby-Flawz
And with that I wish you a wonderful Wednesday. Cya! xo
This is what I'm looking at for inspiration regarding my ball gown (the back, though).
There's no harm in looking at fronts, is there? For a sec I thought that
the dress Eva is wearing is the same as in the pic above her. The difference is almost impossible to see. She wore this gorgeous Emanuel Ungaro dress on
the Golden Globes red carpet and I also love her hair-do. It's so messy but
it's so fabulous at the same time and since I need to have my hair done for the ball I need all the tips I can get! For the last few weeks I have noticed that the blondness of everyone is starting to fade. Dark hair is much more popular and I feel like a weirdo...Once I used to be so awfully proud I was a natural blond.Ughh...I should stop thinking those thoughts!
Have a happy and most of all creative weekend! P.S. Don't forget to check out my friends whose links are on the sidebar. I have also been contemplating a new blog design including more room for pics and less for links and stuff. Au revoir! (Yes, that is French and I hope to share a little bit France-related stuff soon, meanwhile I'll blab about it and other things on Twitter)
Can you see why I love this beauty so much? And of course I saved the best for last, that crazy pattern has me hooked! If you happen to browse her videos, you can see that the one in question here is actually a lot more "happy" than her other clips. Natalia's style is best described as dark pop, her style is edgy. I just can't figure out how she can be so edgy and elegant at the same time. I guess all I have left to do is dye my hair black! At the same time I couldn't help but notice how few colors she actually wears in this video, at first it just seems a blur of black and white. I really need to figure out her secret soon!
And to save you from the burden of searching for the video yourself, here it is.
If you look at this GIF too long I promise it will eventually creep you out.
I just love all the creative and magnificent videos especially about vintage. I know it's Thanksgiving but I don't think I want to do a whole post about it. Instead I'd just like to show you what I'd wear when I'm scooping in pumpkin pie with extra sweet whipped cream. Mmmm...Even though I don't eat that much meat, what's the harm in having a turkey dress?
I'm sorry to cram all of these into one post but I just couldn't wait to share this goodness with the world! At some point I rediscovered Katy Perry and how good she actually is. I personally think this is one of her best videos and the song just makes me want to cry! I tried to line the pictures in order of appearance but you should definitely check outthe video because the dress that I love the most (pic 4 and 5 from bottom) just isn't shown fully. Also I have to get my hands on such stunning '40s pieces!
I told you I totally jinxed it. Yes, that means that I saw the first snow of Winter 2011/12 yesterday. Oh, the soft noise of white drops falling down onto an empty street...But I automatically thought about how cold it's going to be soon. I wanted to shut myself in my room with a box of candy and about a gallon of hot chocolate and resurface only for food until spring. Then I came home and started browsing blogs and almost died when I saw that almost everyone just had to have a mini-skirt or short sleeves on. Do you have no respect for people who have to start digging themselves out of their front door every morning?! Okay, I kid. But since I'm already on the topic of snow, the border between elegant and underwear white is so fuzzy.
Just a teeny reminder how much I am obsessed with sweaters. I didn't know how to make a white sweater that much more interesting but then I got this flash of inspiration one morning and threw a nice collared shirt under my sweater! I love how blue is actually such a beautiful and extremely simple. It also seems like I am the only one in my school who has an early obsession, I mean we haven't even seen our first snow yet...Bet I jinxed it now, haha. :)
...or not. This has been a never ending dress hunt. I have been browsing a site for the last week. I love it how they have so many pics of one dress, it makes it easier to get inspiration. At one point I noticed how boring the backs of clothing usually are. I thought "Why does the front have to be more expressive than the rest?" so now I can't stand a dress that doesn't have a even mildly impressive back. I should actually finally start sewing my gown, but how can I start a piece when I don't even know what it's supposed to turn into.
The capacity of my list of project as of November 27, 2011. So that means not very long ago.
(Starting from top of bottom image)
My ball gown. That is now happily finished (luckily) and somewhere in the heap of clothes on my floor. (oops)
My knit dress. I have to sew the loose parts together so the sleeves won't start to come undone. Not that much of a big job.
The "puffifying" shirt. Now I realize I have actually completed two items already.
A shirt I made that only has the bottom lining missing. It's such a wonderful project that I have to post it soon!
A white mini dress that I am clueless about how to finish it. Should I make it longer, should I make it shorter...and so on.
Actually two purple dresses I have ideas about but haven't got around to actually making them.
A gorgeous floral dress. Maxi probably. Don't know, too soon to care.
Another top. Also needs lining!
And the list goes on and on because my genius mind thought it would be awesome to even buy more stuff in need of remaking and therefore making my pile of unfinished projects even bigger. Awesome, right?? (Not really)
And I'm off to celebrate the stupendous Friday that is upon us finally!
I bought two pairs of shoes some Friday. This is one of them.
I will never know who made these shoes.
I will never know if at any part of the production was illegal.
I will never know who was even responsible for making these shoes because the company just doesn't have a web page.
You see, this is why I am so into making my own clothes. Then again, I will probably never really know how the fabric is produced anyway! Sometimes it really makes me worry how dreadfully much we consume. Take a look at the IPhone. As I understand, each time a new version comes out, people exchange phones without even hesitating. This is also the reason why I haven't been rushing to buy a new phone or made any other big investment in money lately. If you can look past relatively big generalizations, I think you will enjoy this video and I hope it will make you think before you rush to buy a new "Made in China". (:
The font is Olho de Boi but I think this signature thing is temporary ;)
As you can see this is a completely random and obviously a very compulsive-ish wishlist I put together faster than the speed of light. As much as I lust after these insanely gorgeous and adorable and expensive pieces (seriously, though. A pair of skinny jeans costs more than the pumps) I can't say that this is my real wishlist. I don't think I've ever really had clothes on my list of things I want Santa to bring. However, now is not really the time to be composing random posts about stuff I probably won't want in an hour or so. I am pretty sure it's time for finals in the U.S. and I have an exceptionally tricky week myself. Luckily once this week is over I'll be (almost) in heaven. Hallelujah!
Random. You were warned.
I bought two new nail polishes last week, a maroon and a very light and creamy pink. The green on the first pic is the Maybelline Green Park shade. I vividly remembered seeing a similar one on Atlantic-Pacific here, so when I saw my friend had an awesome green like that I couldn't pass it by.
Also if you want some pre-shoutouts about the blog, you can always follow my twitter :)
Cya later! xxoo
Also I apologize for the horrible quality of the pics, as usual!
I bet I'm not the only one who had an obsession with elegant gowns as a child, and then grew up to wearing jeans every day...haha. Okay, kidding. My obsession will probably last forever. Our school ball is in less than a month and I have to get a dress that is theme-appropriate. We're turning our school into a ship for an evening. However, I don't want to be a sailor and I really really would love to make my own dress. This gown is lovably simple but it's a little too simple, haha, big dilemma right? Anyway, I wouldn't have anything against something like these! I'd love to mix them together, the back of the first and the front part of the second dress.
